Navigation Menu Widget problem

  • Has anyone else come across the following problem?

    I’m trying to add a navigation menu widget into a sidebar. After dragging the widget into the sidebar area, it opens up so that you can insert the details but immediately closes again before anything can be entered. If you try and re-open it by clicking the down arrow, nothing happens. I’m using the Custom Sidebars plugin but that doesn’t seem to be the cause as the problem is there even when the plugin is deactivated. The problem is the same for both Theme and Custom sidebars. Also, if I clone a menu widget that is OK, the cloned object has the same problem.

    This is so frustrating! Any ideas?

    This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

    Thank you for your reply. The Twenty themes work OK but the problem is there with my own theme activated and all the plugins deactivated so it looks as if it’s something in the theme itself. I have now found that the problem is more general. It happens with ANY widget that needs input. It wasn’t there in the first versions of the theme so it must be something that I have done since. Any ideas where I should start looking? Maybe anything in functions.php that has to do with sidebars?

    The buck stops here – it’s me. I’m considering removing as much as possible from functions.php and gradually putting stuff back. Is there anywhere else I should be looking?
