Navigation Menu – Featured Image Display…

Hi all,

I’m currently creating a theme and what I desperately want to know is if it is possible to have a link in the navigation bar to display a featured image. I know hoe to do this with CSS but I wanted to make this happen dynamically using php (fudging it in is not an option!).

I’ll give a for instance;
I want to have my ‘About’ page in the navigation bar. So, I set a featured image in the page (just like any other post) and publish. Then I add it to the Navigation bar as normal. What I would like to happen is for that featured image I have set to display as a thumbnail above the link to the page in the Nav Bar.

Is this possible!?
