Nav menu on side not top

By default many themes have the menu as a list of pages displayed across the top. Instead I have a custom menu listing categories, of which too many to go along the top in a single row.

Is there a theme that by default has the menu on the side that responsively becomes a drop-down on mobiles? Or is there a plug-in or other solution that would achieve this?
