Nav Bar – Change backgroun color and Font color on menu bar

Hi,
I can’t seem to figure out how to replace the Site title / tagline with an image so I am opting not to have either on the site.
But the nav bar and header is quite Blah.
Anyone know how to add a background color to the nav bar and change the menu font color?
