• Hi, I have set up many wordpress multisite with subdomains and never had this issue before and could use some advice on how to find the problem.

The site is https://whiteheadec.com/ with subdomain https://reviews.whiteheadec.com/

I’ve added the wildcard subdomain to the cpanel *.whiteheadec.com

The client setup the domain name but instead of using nameservers he used the IP address due to using office 360. Could this cause the issue?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

  • Yes, that is very likcly to be the issue. If I remember rightly (from the very limited exposure that I’ve had to office 360) you set the nameservers to point to their servers, and then set the A record to point to your hosting server. That means that any sub-domains won’t get caught because there’s no DNS settings for them in the Office 360 system. There could (should…) be a way to add in the A records for sub-domains as well, but you’d need to check the Office dashboard or help to find out where to do this.

Hi, I got another site https://wecnow.com/ and set up godaddy with the nameservers and set the multisite wordpress like I always do and am getting the same error. There is no office 360 set up with this domain name. I’m getting:

The server at twp.wecnow.com can’t be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website’s name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you very much

The main domain works, but the sub-domain doest. That tells me that you have either set up the sub-domain wrong, or that it’s not set up at all. Again, this isn’t anything to do with WordPress and is something that your hosting company or domain registrar should be dealing with.

Thank you very much. I have set so many of these up with no issue and can’t figure what I did wrong this time. I will go over all the setting again and look at tutorial to see if I can find the error in this. Again thank you for verifying it is my error.
