In recent months people who sign up on my MailChimp list via what’s shown on my list as “API-Generic” get their names (both first and last) turned into gibberish (eg. 58f8d42e2c04d instead of Dave) It’s doesn’t happen 100 percent of the time but nearly so since April of this year. This doesn’t happen when people use “Hosted Signup Form”

Unfortunately my web designer is out of commission so I have to figure this out myself. I’ve chatted with MailChimp and they say it’s not on their end.

    Please help or advise.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Are you sure you are using our plugin, MailChimp for Worpress?
If you post a link to the form on your website I can check that for you.

    Kind regards,

Sure, Thanks! Here’s the link https://joelwolfson.com The form is on just about every page on my website.Although my site looks like one site here is the other site with the form https://wolfsonworkshops.com
Yes, I’m sure it’s MailChimp for WordPress (v4.1.9 but it started happening with previous two versions before this one) Currently running WP 4.8.2

You can set the log on the MailChimp for WP > Other page to “Log everything” and sign up with a test email.

Check if the name is set correctly right after the signup. If so, the form is working correctly and it’s something else that happens later that resets the name. If there is no log about that happening on the Other page it’s unrelated to our plugin.

It could be the UserSync add-on? Are you using that?

Or do you have anything else connected to your MailChimp account via API?

You can create a new API key and set that in our plugin and delete the old one.
You can take a look at the API log on MailChimp.com by clicking your username, Account > Settings > Extra > API. Scroll down on that page to see the last 24 hours of API traffic.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for this. I don’t know of anything else connected to my MailChimp account via API and I don’t have any plugin called UserSync.

I just set the Logging on the “Other” page to “Everything” and I will try a signup as you suggest.

Sorry for my ignorance but how would I go about getting a new API key? Do I need to contact MailChimp? Also, will it do anything detrimental? I don’t want to blow up my site or even my mailchimp form and anything like that.

    Thanks Again!

You setup the API key in your MailChimp.com account, click on your username > Account > Extra > API.

    Hope that helps!

    Kind regards,
