    Hey There,
new to WordPress so may not have all the terminology right.

I am currently using Namecheap with Stellar to host my site of Susbuddy.com

In the Cpanel for Susbuddy.com the Softaculous app installer and one of the script options is WordPress.

I originally ( rather foolishly ) designer my site with SiteBuilder which I now wish to move away from.

The question I have is if I install WordPress in my route directory of [ redundant link removed ] will that mean my current site is gone?

How could I allow some time for designing the site in WordPress before replacing the site built in WebsiteBuilder?

    My estimate is to:
    – install WordPress in a directory like /xyz_for_development_use
-design website as normal take as long as I like.
-when ready, using file manager in cPanel in public_html/web.config change the references to ncsitebuilder (namecheaps WebsiteBuilder) to xyz_for_development_use

Is this how to do it or am I going to just mess up everything if I try this?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Your first two steps are fine. The 3rd step will mess up things. Beyond first two steps I suggest following:

    3) Once you are ready with new site in a subfolder and ready to launch it on the root domain then create a static maintenance page and name it index.html and keep that in your webroot.
    4) Create a folder old-wp-site and move all your old WordPress files in that folder.
    5) After doing this try to hit https://susbuddy.com/ it should show you the static html maintenance page (index.html) you created earlier
    6) Now install a “Better Search Replace” plugin on the WordPress site which you setup in a subdirectory (say /newsite) and replace “https://susbuddy.com/newsite” with “https://susbuddy.com”
    7) Now try visiting https://susbuddy.com/newsite and it should appear broken (not reachable)
    8) Now move all WordPress files from /newsite folder to your web root
    9) Now if you visit the https://susbuddy.com/ it should show you the new site

If you face any issue then try resaving the permalinks and flushing any cache.

    I hope this helps.
