Hi I’m using the latest wordpress 4.23 (recently updated) and the plugin no page comment, I have a mixture of static pages and blog pages so just want the comments on posts. The most recent comments though are, after being approved, manual approval, are leaving behind the last persons name in the name box and their email address in the email box. I have tried several ways of cleaning this but after logging in and out to see if it made any difference the answer is no. Wonder if any one has any sugesstions or (hopefully) fixes. Thanks.

No reply from this forum, so disabled no page comment plugin and went back to disable comments plugin. No comments no email and name showing on page. Probably thanks to this 4.23 update I’ve been reading about on this forum string. If any one has had a similar experience please add a comment to this post as I would like people to comment on my blog page without their name and email left behind for the next person to come along and find it. Until then.

You’ve come across something that doesn’t have anything to do with No Page Comment, but with WordPress. No Page Comment only affects the admin section of the site and doesn’t touch the front-end at all.

What you are seeing is actually a feature for WordPress. To make it easier for returning visitors, a cookie gets stored on their browser with their email, name and site. Because it’s a cookie, it will not show up for other visitors (unless they happen to be using your computer and browser).

Thanks Seth I used your plugin over the disable comments because it offers more freedom and I am happy with it. I wasn’t thinking too much about that as an issue only didn’t realise about cookies???Duuh?? Sorry I sounded some dumb, must be one of those days ??
Now I know I can revert back to your plugin, thanks. As I say though I posted here thinking it was part of the 4.23 update and not specifically any kind of plugin. Just was just round-housing to see what might be the problem. Thanks again.

No worries. I understood where you were coming from.

I’m happy you like the plugin. You probably won’t need it for long though as comments on pages will be disabled by default in core in version 4.3. ??

I thought that’s what blogging was all about though? Social commentary. The to and fro of debate and explanation? Is the medium dead?

Nope. Just for pages. ?? Commenting will still be on by default for posts, which is where that commentary usually comes from.

Ah, okay. Just while you’re here, if I may I’d like to ask how would I learn about creating plgins for wordpress please.

I did it by viewing the source code of other plugins and a lot of trial and error.

It also helps that I had an issue I was passionate enough about, so I spent the time to create a solution for it, forcing me to learn how to do it.

Since then, I’ve made a lot of plugin for clients (none released on WP.org), but most of it all comes from viewing source code of other plugins and also reviewing and understanding how WordPress actions and filters work.

I’d recommend watching Topher’s talk on intro to plugin development: https://wordpress.tv/2015/06/20/topher-derosia-introduction-to-plugin-development/

Thank you Seth for replying and your comments, most helpful. I love my Rss always have since 2007 and want a more responsive one than is available, ie; two or even three different feeds on same page. A lot of plugins these days seem to go for overcomplicating and taking over just about anything and everything without giving the user the option of what they want to do, such as yours which allowed me to split down what is best for my site. I’ll close this post after this and with a big thankyou. I’m a fan of developers simply because the’ve made my life and my websites that much more functional and of course simple. Nice to chat to some one who knows his ‘onions’.
    Cheers.
    Steve
