Hi. This is a very minor ‘issue’. I’m putting together a new website using the 2020 theme with very few current plugins, and I see wp-crontrol in the Plugins list. No big, but I definitely didn’t install it myself and I’ve no idea where it comes from. Might it have been installed by another plugin (eg Jetpack)? I’ve currently got:

    Jetpack
    Akismet
    Options for 2020
    Twentig
    Password protected

There is another mystery plugin, WP-Cron Control, which I also didn’t install, which may (or may not) be related to WP-Crontrol.

This isn’t a complaint – on the contrary, this looks to be a very handy plugin which I’m happy to have installed – but I’m a bit of a control freak on my sites and mystery features appearing is disconcerting.

There is only one account on the site, mine, and is only used by myself, and it’s not called ‘admin’ or anything obvious. The site isn’t open to the public at all.

Can anyone suggest where the plugin has come from? If it’s a gift from the gods I thank them for their generosity, but still…

Possibly installed by your host, or by a one-click installation service if you used that. It might be bundled with another plugin but it’s unlikely.

Good point, John, thanks. I’ll check with my hosting provider as I used their ‘one click’ WP install. I’ll be a bit miffed if they did this, though I suppose that if I wanted complete control of WP I’d have manually installed it via FTP and web script.

    Hi John,

I have updated the WP Crontrol plugin 3 days ago. Now all of my Cron jobs show an error message about when they last ran. I tried to manually run one job and this created a duplicate cut with a date 50 years in the past.

How do I move back to the previous version if this cannot be fixed?

    Thanks,

    Bill
