I ordered off my site to get some information I needed. However, I found I received an email (as a customer would), but it has wording I’d like to change.

I went to WC settings > emails and checked all the emails there, but none matched what I received. Now I don’t know where else to look.

Since it was a dummy order, I selected ‘direct deposit’ as the payment method. The email gives the account details needed for the deposit. It looks like something I’ve edited in the past, just can’t find where.

I have a plugin to edit my ‘thank you’ page. That’s fine. It’s a ‘thank you’ email that’s come through.

    Hi @lindsaywhitehead ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that you are experiencing difficulties finding where to edit your email template, as what you are seeing within WooCommerce → Settings → Emails differs from what you received when placing a test order, is this correct?

Are you perhaps using any email template customizer plugins, as this could be where the template design is coming from.

Additionally, please can you share a screenshot of the email you received. If you do not already have a screenshot service, Snipboard.io?can be used for easily sharing screenshots – please follow the instructions on that page, then paste the URL in this thread.

Also, please share a copy of your sites System Status report which you can find via WooCommerce?→?Status. Select?Get system report?and then?Copy for support.

Once you have this, please share the results in your response here.

    Cheers!

    Hi Roxy,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, you’re correct.

No, I’m not using a plugin to alter my WC emails.

I can’t get the screenshot page to work. I can take a screenshot, but I can’t attach it. So I don’t know what to do.

I do know I’m editing the correct template, though. I edited it after I did the dummy order and received it. I resent it again from the order page, and my edits were there. It seems like the part I want to change isn’t editable.

Without being able to send the screenshot, I can describe it.

There is the heading (I can edit)

Then this, which I can’t edit, but want to:

    Hi Lindsay,

We have finished processing your order.

    [Order #28968] (June 13, 2023)

    Followed by the order info.

Then the email text, which I can edit.

For some reason, I can’t paste the system report.

    Hi @lindsaywhitehead ,

I can’t get the screenshot page to work. I can take a screenshot, but I can’t attach it. So I don’t know what to do.

You can add the screenshot to Snipboard.io?, and then share that link directly here.

For some reason, I can’t paste the system report.

Can you try try uploading the System Status Report by using?Pastebin?and sharing the link with us here?

Once we have this, we will have a better understanding of what you are seeing on your end, as well as what you would like to edit.

    Looking forward to your response!

    Thanks again Roxy.

I meant that snipboard.io didn’t work. It gave an error when I tried to paste. However, I have found a workaround. Not being able to attach files here is incredibly annoying.

This is the email as it was:

This is the email after I edited it as much as I could:

My problem with the email is it’s in plural first person, which isn’t right for me. I have been able to fix the heading and add text to the bottom (red circled). But I want to change the text with the green arrow.

    Hello @lindsaywhitehead ??

Thank you for reaching back, elaborating further on this, I’m happy to help you!

Take a look in the WooCommerce > Settings > Payments section, instead. Look for the Instructions field, for the direct deposit payment method. Linked below is a screenshot, for reference:

    Hi Pepe,

Thanks for your reply. I’m sorry, I have confused myself with a similar but different ticket I have. I sent the wrong email in my last reply.

The one relating to this thread is at: https://snipboard.io/kGMJVq.jpg

I know how to edit the WC emails, as in the article you provided. I’ve read that before too. The problem is, this email isn’t there. None of the wording of this email was written by me. It’s got WC order information in it, but the text is wrong.

I looked at WooCommerce > Settings > Payments. I might be able to add wording to the bottom of this email, I don’t need to add information. I want to reword the entire email.

    Hello @lindsaywhitehead,

Sorry, but I can’t see what’s wrong with the email. This is the order on-hold template which is generated by default, you can find it in WooCommerce > Settings > Emails:

The email is sent to customers if they’re using a payment method that requires the store admin to confirm it manually, like bank transfers.

    Here’s the template path: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/blob/714e50bf4c26156e487f48447a119df7d89a1ff8/plugins/woocommerce/templates/emails/customer-on-hold-order.php#L5

Hi Saif, thanks for your reply. I have already changed that template, but it must have been after that email was sent. I did another order to test, and you’re right.

It looks like what I want to change is not editable without a plugin.

I wonder why WC bothers to have an email edit feature without enabling us to edit most of the email?

    Hello @lindsaywhitehead,

My apologies for the late reply. Glad to hear you figured it out! ??

I wonder why WC bothers to have an email edit feature without enabling us to edit most of the email?

The only field you can’t edit from the email settings page is the body as it’s usually generated dynamically.

You can check this guide on how to override certain theme templates.

Alternatively, you can use third-party plugins to tweak the structure. For instance, MailPoet offers a user-friendly drag-and-drop option.
