• Is anyone willing to explain this sentence to me? I am trying to learn WP at the same time I am creating a website. I purchased the WP Quiz Pro plugin and after purchase found out that the host would need to support Imagick (an extension of ImageMagick). Of course, mine doesn’t. I checked some other hosts and one told me that they do not have it, but I can “use ssh, they can setup a cron, and they can use a php script.”

I have no idea what that sentence means. Is anyone willing to give me a step-by-step? I asked on the Quiz pro site, but they just want me to use a hosting service they suggest, which I might do, but I’ve already paid for this one, so I’d like to give this mysterious sentence a try.

  • Your hosts seem to be suggesting that they provide you with remote access (ssh) to your server so that you(?) can upload scripts/extensions and that they will then use a scheduling facility (cron) and a script (php) to run your uploaded files/extensions on a regular, unattended, basis.

Unless you have well-developed technical skills, I’d suggest that you’d be better off switching to another host that does offer Imagick or using another plugin.

    Thank you for explaining, esmi.

Since I didn’t know what that stuff meant, I clearly do not have very good technical skill. In school, javascript made me cry, so that gives you an idea…

The host is Arvixe. Apparently, they can do this for me, but they won’t. It is very difficult to communicate with them, as well. It takes them a minimum of 5 minutes to answer each question, no matter what it is and many times the answer is a bit off from what was asked. I get the feeling that they have to translate what I say before they can respond. This morning I just realized that they re-charged me every day since Saturday for a domain I purchased.

You are right. Time to leave. I just hate wasting money like this. ??
