• I’m running a site on WP 2.9.2 and Thesis theme 1.6. I’m not sure when it happened (might have been when I upgraded to 2.9.2), but I just noticed that there is an extra tab appearing in my nav bar. It’s not listed in pages area, and not listed in Navigation options in Thesis menu.

This may have been a page that I created, but then placed in the trash, and now it’s suddenly appearing out of nowhere. It’s not listed in the Pages Trash area. It does not have a permalink, but a page id number instead.

Can anyone shed some light for me or tell me how to get rid of a page in the nav that I can’t find anywhere? TIA

  • It does not have a permalink

By this, do you mean you can’t visit this page as a link OR even by typing in the url manually?
Or do you mean it does not have a pretty permalink like “about us” etc.

It doesn’t have a pretty permalink like “about us” as other pages do. Just a page ID.

What happens if you visit the page while logged in and try to edit it?

    Site url?

If I visit the page while logged in, it gives me a message that says:

    There’s nothing here.

If there were posts in the database, you’d be seeing them. Try creating a post, and see if that solves your problem.

There actually is a post in the database, and not sure why it’s trying to bring in posts.

No Edit option as with other pages.

Site URL is https://www.immanuelwebster.org. You’ll see the Mystery Page when you click on the “Services” Tab.

Anyone want to venture a guess for me? I even looked in phpMyAdmin, and don’t see a post named Services or with an ID of 60.

How do I get rid of something that doesn’t seem to exist, except that it does???

    TIA

I would export the database .sql file and open it in notepad and search for the problem page

Dang, that really is a mystery page? Wish I could help!

What about any type of cache related issue? (A shot in the dark)

Oh, I really hate messing around with databases…but I just might have to.

I don’t think it’s a cache issue, because it’s not just my machine.

I’ll let you know if I ever figure it out…plz let me know if you think of anything else in the mean time. Thx for taking a look!

I meant is there a cache issue within your site files, not a browser cache. Some files such as timthumb image re-sizer create a cache of the images after re-sizing them so they don’t need to be re-sized every time.

Another example is wp-ecommerce plugin. It creates a cache of the checkout pages and others. If you try to edit the files from the core, the output does not get affected because the system is referring to the cache “instead” of the actual file.

I was wondering if the menu was doing some similar type of thing, therefore, until you erased it from that cache file, it would still be accessing that.

Like I said, a shot in the dark because I really don’t know much about this theme.

See this https://diythemes.com/thesis/rtfm/your-navigation-menu/ toward the end of the article.

Thanks for the explanation and link. After reading your note I went into the file manager for the site, and took a look at the cache folder within the theme…the folder was empty.

I really hope I don’t have to rebuild this site for such a silly thing. I’ll try contacting Thesis next to see if they’ve ever heard of this.

    Thanks again!

Hi whizbangweb, I think you don’t have to rebuild it. We had the same problem with a client’s website and got rid of it eventually. And: We had more than one “mystery page”, it was actually three pages, no idea where they came from.

    Hi whizbangweb,

I do see a mystery page on my navigation menu. I am not sure the source for this. I am using WordPress MU 2.9.2 and Thesis 1.8. This is bothering me. Please do let me know what have you done in order to remove this mystery page.

    Thank you,
    josh
