mysql_connect(): The mysql extension is deprecated and will be removed

  • Hi, I recently updated my wordpress to 4.4.2 and also upgraded php version to 5.6 on server ..Now the site have started showing this error

    mysql_connect(): The mysql extension is deprecated and will be removed in the future: use mysqli or PDO instead in wp_db.php

    Assuming that it was a plugin or theme issue, i installed a fresh installation on the server with wordpress 4.4.2 but it also showing the same error when there is no plugin installed and the themes are also default wordpress themes. so it doesn’t seem to be a theme or plugin issue ..
    I am not sure what is causing this problem can someone help me out here please
