• Hi, we have some WordPress installations on an older server that wasn’t maintained so well. It’s currently running mySQL version 5.0.xx.

    I’m wondering if WordPress will have any issues if the database is upgraded directly to 5.6?

    Does anyone here have any experience doing this?

    Thanks!

  • cPanel updates through each version to avoid issues, so 5.0 -> 5.1, 5.1 -> 5.5, 5.5 -> 5.6

    As always backup your databases before attempting!

    Thanks John. I wish that this server had done that, however, it’s not a shared hosting account, but a VPS.

    I’m still wondering if anyone on the development team might now if WordPress will survive a mysql database upgrade like this in one go, rather from step to step.

    Just to be clear, the sites are all running the latest 4.x version.
