I have recently installed wordpress on a dedicated server.

I ran into quite a few problems, such as the ‘categories’ not being created and permalinks not working. I managed to resolve these issues by setting the permissions to the ‘wp-content’ folder as well as all files contained within that folder to ‘777’. I also changed the permission of the ‘.htaccess’ file to ‘666’.

The problem I am now having is when I log onto the database using myphp. I see only 10 tables, and no table for the ‘categories’, although the ‘categories’ section everything else appears to be working fine on the front end of mywordpress site.

I have previously installed wordpress on a shared hosting environment using ‘Go Daddy’ and had absolutely no problems at all. When comparing the database of my successful godaddy install and the database of my new install on a dedicated server there is quite a difference on the number of tables being listed in the database, there are less tables being displayed on my dedicated server install.

So why is my database NOT displaying ALL the tables required by wordpress???

    Thanks!

  • Check Database Description for the list of tables created in a 2.3 install.

Thanks for the link Michael. This puts my mind at ease.

I guess I must have installed an older version of wordpress on my shared server where there are about 13 tables listed including one for the ‘categories’.

I guess this new version of wordpress doesn’t create a table for categories then?

Categories, link2cat, post2cat, and new tags are melded into the 3 terms tables in 2.3.
