    During the installation process:

    MySQL says error 2003 — server is not responding but the XAMPP control panel shows SQL “running”

    Please help. Thanks.

    I already tried changing ports, with no success.

    I managed to fix the above problem by doing two things:
    1. I went into MySQL server instance configure wizard and said “next” to everything except I changed ports
    2. I set up a Filezilla server
    3. (By the way, this may be unrelated but Filezilla shows “running” in the XAMPP control panel)

    Sorry folks. The next time I started up my computer I could not get anything running locally despite repeating the above.
