My website is very slow and I don’t know what the problem might be. I have WordPress 4.6.1 running TanX theme. The website itself is not very complex, but it’s true that I have many images on it (being a portfolio website).
    – I have the W3 Total Cache plugin and WP Smush plugin to reduce the images file size.
    – Here is an image showing a speed test done on https://testmysite.thinkwithgoogle.com/
    speed test

    My website is https://www.talciocdesign.com

    Thanks in advance!

  • I would advise disabling W3 Total Cache because it does not work well will all server configurations and is very complex to set up. Then set up a free account with CloudFlare CDN and configure that to work with your WordPress site. Then if you are still unhappy with the speed leave the CloudFlare CDN set up and try to reconfigure W3 Total Cache again using one of these guides.

    https://docs.presscustomizr.com/article/178-how-to-setup-w3-total-cache-plugin-with-the-customizr-theme

    https://www.onlinemediamasters.com/w3-total-cache-settings/

    https://www.shoutmeloud.com/how-to-install-configure-w3-total-cache-wordpress-plugin.html

or any of the others that you may be able to find in google. They all pretty much have the same info. I hope this helps.

OK, thanks! I will try to reconfigure W3 Total Cache. What happens if I still have the plugin and CloudFlare at the same time?

If W3TC is configured correctly and you have CloudFlare you will be golden. I would set up CloudFlare first then reconfigure W3TC if you still feel you need to. In my ten years of developing WordPress sites I have rarely needed W3TC on sites that have CloudFlare setup.

Good luck and feel free to come back with further questions if you run into more problems.

Yep, CloudFlare rocks. On my sites that are relatively static, I use a CloudFlare page rule to speed them up even more:
    *yoursite.com/*
    Cache Level: Cache Everything

On my sites that are less static, I pair CloudFlare with a simpler cache plugin – for me W3TC is just too easy to misconfigure. I use Comet Cache.

Comet Cache is a nice plugin too… Although, I will say again that typically I do not need another plugin once I have completed the CloudFlare setup.

I forgot to ask, what does it mean, in the image I attached, “Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above the fold content”? And how can this be done?

    Thank you.

I would not worry about that…
Above the fold means literally about one hundred different things.

Are you on mobile? is it a 3-inch screen, 4-inch screen, 7-inch screen?
Are you on laptop? is it is q 12-inch screen, 13-inch screen?
Are you on desktop, is it a 19-inch screem, 21-inch screen, 27-inch screen?

Get the point? I just named 8 situations where “above the fold” will mean different things?

    Do not worry about that.
