• First off, I’m an amateur. No real coding experience. I have a personal blog on WordPress which I updated frequently between 2009 – 2011, and then have barely used since then. However, I need to revive it now. The problem is that when I type the URL (www.dangennari.com) into an address bar in any browser, the site tries to load a page at https://www.dangennari.com/story-fundraiser/sponsors/. This refers to a fundraiser which I promoted in 2011, but was never the primary landing page. I just want the homepage to be the index page of the theme or a collection of recent posts. Visitors can see any other page or post by clicking the links, or typing direct URL’s. The only thing which displays incorrectly is when trying to navigate to the first page at https://www.dangennari.com . Suggestions?

what do you have for the site url and the home url in the setting (in dashboard)?

Under the General Settings, both items are set to https://www.dangennari.com. Screen shot of that window here….https://www.dangennari.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Screenshot-2015-03-03-22.36.57.png

Just throwing some things out. This page has a body class of error404. Have you checked the settings for home page in Settings/Reading – for the a static page or blog page as the page for your main site to see if it was reset to this or an unknown? What about checking htaccess file for any redirect.

That looks like you have either for no page set for your home page, or you don’t have any news articles to show.

The way to get around this is easy – add some content! As soon as you do that, your site will show that content, and you won’t see any “not found” notices unless something is really not found.

Willow case, I checked the Settings > Reading location and it says Front Page Displays: Your latest posts. I don’t know what the htaccess file is. I’ll look around for that, but not sure what I’m looking for or what to do with it if I find it.

Catacaustic, can blog posts expire from being displayed as the most recent? My dashboard says I’ve published 151 posts over the years, and there are links to many if them in the right sidebar.

As the home page redirects, it’s going to be most likely that you have a redirect set up somewhere. Normally this is either done through a dedicated plugin, or through an SEO plugin. Are you using anything like that?

Hey I think I fixed the problem. In Settings > permalink, I noticed I was using a custom permalink structure. I changed it back to the WP default structure and my recent posts suddenly showed up on the homepage. The URL still changes itself to the weird /story-fundraiser/sponsors, but the page is showing the content I want it to show.
