I have an outdated website which I haven’t accessed in probably a year and therefore was out of date with the latest WordPress. It was hacked (I suppose that’s the term for it) because I tried to access it and found it unresponsive and upon further investigation I found that all the files and folders on my hosting for it had been deleted in full.

I pasted the files exactly as they were back from my harddrive to the hosting account and that got the site back online so I can login to the my WordPress control panel and can access the main page, but no other page on the site works as I get a “404 not found” error.

I still see all of the posts in my control panel that I had made yet I can’t access any of them live online. When I try to add a fresh new page or post it says it publishes just fine but I get the same error when trying to see the actual URL.

    What is going on here??

  • Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting via Settings -> Permalinks. If this works, then review Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure back up again.

Wow I took your advice and even though it was already set to that I basically just hit update without changing anything and it worked! Thanks so much!

    Glad I could help ??
