• Hello there,

I admit I don’t know pretty much anything about coding and creating stuff so bear with me.
I created my www.remarpro.com account, have set up my blog with plugins, new theme, etc.
However, when I click on “visit site” it redirects to my blog but with the url ” localhost:888/martabassof/ ” being martabassof my username.
I don’t understand how change my public address to be for example: martabassof.www.remarpro.com , as I think it is supposed to be.
I tried to change site url both in phpmyadmin and in general settings but I cannot get rid of this…. It’s been hours I am stressing out, please help!
I set up my wordpress using MAMP by the way.

Thanks a lot to anyone who will respond, remember it’s the first time I’m approaching this…

  • Hey,

If you’ve set up WordPress as a local install using something like MAMP you don’t have a “public” address as such as your site is not actually on the internet. I’m not sure why your username is added to the URL, that will be down to do how you set up MAMP. localhost:8888 is the normal way MAMP will pre-pend your url if you haven’t changed the default MAMP settings.

Once you have finished building your blog locally you will need to migrate it to a hosting server, purchase a domain and point the domain to the host server for the site to actually be visible on the intenret. This can be a little tricky if you have no experience as you also need to change URL serialised data to the actual site URL e.g. https://mydomain.com

The easiest way may be for you to buy a hosting package and a domain name with a good hosting company. You can then install WordPress in one click from the host control panel – most good hosts offer this service, and start building your blog directly online so you have no worry about migration.

    Hope this helps
    Cheers

    Thanks Hugues,

I already own a domain, which is namely mynamemysurname.com
How can I connect it to my wordpress?

I am sorry, I am not a geek! Thanks for the patience ??

    Hi,
    No worries.

In order to connect your domain to your WordPress website it first needs to be hosted on a web server. There are many options out there like Siteground, WP Engine to name two good options.

Each will have their own process and can guide you through the steps to change what is called the DNS settings for your domain.

So as I said you cannot point your domain to your website if it is installed with MAMP on your local machine. You must first buy hosting.

    Does this make sense ?
    Cheers
