My site, opinions?

  • Aelon.net is my WordPress blog which I run with a few friends. I recently redesigned it and went for the whole standards compliance thing. I used to work a lot with tabled layouts, and this time around I tried to eliminate them but a look at the code will show there are still a few which I just couldn’t get rid of if I was to preserve the layout I desired.

    Feedback would be great, and any suggestions for how to replace the few tables that are left would be wonderful. I’m not overly experienced with CSS positioning.

  • Position is Everything might be a good place to start to help you figure out some of the CSS-P issues.

    Tables aren’t evil, but if you wanted to be *totally* correct semantically, they should only be used to display tabular data.

    Site looks good though. I like the colours! It’s easy to read.

    I used to use tables for pretty much everything. Although I originally decided in this design that I’d be happy to just minimise their use, seeing CSS showcase websites that only accept example sites using tables for tabular data makes me want to eliminate the last few.

    Will do some more reading and experimenting.

    The layout is a wee bit wide for 800×600 and your hnav bar overlaps your logo at that res right now. Should be an easy fix.

    Otherwise, I’m so jealous! Keep up the great work.

    I am looking at the site at 1024×768 and it looks amazing!

    I really enjoy your use of subtle colors. Nicely done, indeed.

    Ah yeah. I usually check for 800×600 compatibility by just checking the site out with a reduced browser window size. I fixed the nav bar overlapping. With Firefox I see a horizontal scrollbar now, but nothing I can see actually causes it – and it doesn’t exist in IE when it’s window is the same size as Fx’s.

    I liek it cleen, sleek and great use of space – one of the neatest looking sites I’ve seen.
