My site may have been hijacked

    I’ve found that all of the links on my site has additional characters added to the url. For example, you can hover over the link https://www.mysite.com/about_us and see it reads as https://www.mysite.com/about_us/361/#more-361. Clicking it sends you to an external website which appears to be defunct. This is also for longer posts that have the continue reading link, click it takes you to an external site instead of the rest of the article.

    I’m curious how it happened but more concerned about fixing it. Any help would be appreciated.

    It’s a hard task to determine how a site has been hijacked. There is a FAQ where you can follow some steps in order to find the reason and try to fix it.

    I went through a few of these and they didn’t offer much help. While on my Bluehost account page I saw a chat box and, long story short, they were able to resolve the problem for me. They said there was a sub-plugin within a plugin folder. He renamed it which solved the problem. I can’t see any such folders so I have to assume it’s something that’s in the background of Bluehost.
