• Started a blog at wwww.wellfedsp.com/blog in 2012. Kept up with it sporadically until some life emergencies took me away from it for good in early 2013. When I went back a few months ago to post again, ALL the sidebar stuff (console, bio, pic, archives, login, blogroll, etc) was gone.

Had my web guy check it out (he builds sites on WP all the time) and he’s stumped. Has no idea what’s up and how to fix it. I just got an email from WP updating the blog to the latest version of 3.9.2 a few weeks ago (probably something my web guy initiated), but that didn’t make a difference.

So, I can’t log into the blog to post anything else. There’s probably some backdoor into it, but I’m not tech-savvy enough to know what might be. Though, that’s besides the point. I want my blog back like it was! People can still visit the blog and see past posts, but as far as adding new ones, I can’t get in.

I have a second WP blog at https://www.wellfedwriter.com/blog, and if you visit both, you’ll see everything that’s in the sidebar of blog 2 that’s gone missing from #1.

Also, I notice when I do click the “Blog” link on my main nav bar of wellfedsp.com, it takes forever to take me to the page, like it’s really struggling.

    Any thoughts? Thanks much!

    Peter

  • If he does have a lifetime license, he may be happy to upgrade your sites for you. It depends on whatever contract he had with you I suppose.

Is it possible for you to contact the host and see if they can revert your site back prior to the auto update? (and have them turn off or tell you how to disable the auto updates)

This is not a good long-term solution as you should be running the most updated version of WordPress, but would buy you some time to contact your original designer and let him do some testing, updating, etc. as needed.

I just sent him an email, in fact, to see what he can do. AND, sent him the link to this discussion, so he can see what we’ve been talking about…

I look forward to seeing what he says…

I’m the original developer. There was no contract for maintenance, so it does appear at first glance that Thesis 1.6 doesn’t play well with the latest WP. I’ve sent Peter the latest version of Thesis so his current web guy can try updating that. Since that would mean re-buildig the custom appearance anyway, I’ve also suggested the site is re-built as a child theme of a different framework.
