• I am a relative newbie to WordPress but I finally got several blogs running — I had modified the sidebar.php file in each blog so that it had a couple of my own php includes — so that I could feature information from my related website.

These includes were working fine until tonight. When I looked at my blogs tonight, they had none of the additional info that the includes usually import to the sidebar. So I looked at the Sidebar.php file, and all my php include statements were gone — and this happened on a half-dozen different blogs.

I can’t believe that I could have accidentally erased all these files or reset them. Is there any way that the sidebar.php file can be reset to a previous version of itself without the user knowing it?

    Thanks!

  • Recommend you read and become conversant with WordPress Backups before continuing…

One of several things could have happened…

    a. Someone restored a backup over your modified files.

    b. You made these changes to the WordPress Default (or Classic) theme and then did a WordPress upgrade which installs a new copies of the WordPress Default and Classic themes.

    c. You upgraded the Theme from the Appearance->Themes panel and that upgrade installed a new copy of sidebar.php.

If necessary, contact your host to see if they have a backup to restore from.
