My server is pinging itseft

  • Hi,
    I have disabled pings and I’m not showing pingbacks and trackbacks on my site, but my webhosting company told me that my site is pinging itself and made a lot of traffic this way. (site is doing a lot of http request to its own server)

    Anybody has an idea what it could be?

    wp-cron does this for various things. It’s built into WordPress 2.1 and up. It’s a necessary part of WordPress now.

    Now, the real question is what does “a lot” mean, in your case? Just saying it makes hits to itself means nothing, as it’s supposed to do that. But how much is “a lot”?

    Moshu: Not a lot, but yes, sometimes

    Otto42: I’m using version 2.0.10, not 2.1

    The host company told me it is like 10 request to server instead of one (if it is not pinging itself).
