My personal information?

  • My site is still under construction. Test posts have received spam comments (I’m looking into enabling akismet right now).

    One of the spam comments had my last name in it. My user info didn’t contain my last name. My registered email address did (I changed it to another address that auto-sends to me), but I don’t think a spam comment could pluck something like that.

    My domain isn’t private (it’s on the to-do list, but not in the budget at the moment). On whois, it lists the first and last name of the site owner (a family member). Could they have gotten the info from there?

    Is it silly for me to want to keep my last name private?

  • In theory, you could just be played by your colleagues/friends. Get the last name from the e-mail address (if your last name where indicated) is possible. if the domain is registered to you and showing your last name – then whois.net show that last name.
