I read the 5.9 thread already and that doesn’t help me.
I have BlockMeister Version 3.1.1 and WordPress 6.0.

If I go to Block Patterns > All Patterns I see my blocks are all activated and assigned to categories of my invention. If I click on them and I can see that visibility is “public”.

But when I go into the post editor and click the block inserter [+] and then the Patterns tab I don’t see any of my Block Pattern categories.

I can create a new Block Pattern and assign it a built-in category like “text” or “button” but it still doesn’t show in the block inserter [+].

Also, if I create a New Category in the pattern editor it shows up in Block Pattern > Categories with “Source” set to “Unknown”. There are no checkboxes for these categories so they can’t be deleted. In the Categories editor, I can create a new Category and it initially appears with the checkbox. But when I go back in later it is also “Unknown” with no checkbox

By the way, maybe unrelated, but none of the Keywords I type in for a Block Pattern stick. None are listed on the main screen “Keywords” column that lists all the Patterns. In the Pattern editor if I add a keyword to an existing pattern the [Update] button DOES NOT activate.

    1)

Visibility can be ‘Public’ while the post status is still in draft state.

Could please check if your pattern is also ‘Published’:
When you go to All Patterns, then check the ‘Date’ column.
For published patterns it will show something like ‘Published 2022/05/31 at 3:44 pm’.
For draft patterns it will show something like ‘Last Modified 2022/05/31 at 3:48 pm’.

    2)
Regarding the source unknown label and the missing delete option this looks like a bug and I will look further into it and ofcourse fix it a.s.a.p. I will keep you posted.

    3)

… none of the Keywords I type in for a Block Pattern stick.

Did you press enter after you typed in your keyword? That is needed for the editor to accept the keyword. After that the [Update] button becomes active.

Could you please let me know if tips 1 and 3 helped.
I will get back to you on issue 2 when I have a fix ready.

    Thanks for checking into this.

    1) Under “Date” they all say “Published” followed by the date. The filter options also says: All (27) | Published (27) | Trash (2)

    2) Yes, I entered several keywords with commas in between and hit [Enter] just now and the [Update] button stays dim. If I check the “Categories” boxes and it lights up fine.

By the way, I did some more testing. I select an image from a post and used it to create a new pattern. It shows under Block Patterns as “Published” and went into the default category with the name of the blog. Alas, that category doesn’t show up on the inserter either.

To be sure I just set up a new site with the default theme and only the BlockMeister plugin. I am still unable to reproduce issues 1 and 3.

Could it be that you have other plugins active that are interfering?
Is it possible for you to deactivate all other plugins and maybe even test with the default Twenty Twenty-two theme?

If not, is it possible for you to set up a staging site to test with only BlockMeister active (and/or the default theme)?

I am afraid so far I am also unable to reproduce this issue. If I test this, the default category and the image pattern shows in the block inserter as expected.

Regarding issue 2: the keywords controls are actually generated by the editor itself. They are default functionality and work just the same as Tags in a post. Can you test if adding tags to a post have the same issue?

I did the test you asked on another domain with WordPress 6.0 and newly installed and only the BlockMeister plugin active. I was able to get the keywords inserted into the categories but was not able to get a Block Pattern I’d freshly created to be inserted into a new Blog Post. I also had the problem creating new usable Categories. I tried this with Twenty Twenty-Two (latest version) and my standard theme.

Finally, I installed WP Downgrade plugin on the test site and went back to WordPress 5.9.3 (April 5, 2022). I can now see the block patterns again! I can also create my custom categories again. So this is some sort of compatibility issue that happen with WordPress 6.0 release – which is when the problems started. I’m surprised there aren’t others out there with the same problem.

@blockmeister I have archived your reply and flagged your account for moderation.

While I know you have the best of intentions, it’s forum policy that you not ask users for admin or server access. Users on the forums aren’t your customers, they’re your open source collaborators, and requesting that kind of access can put you and them at high risk.

If they are paying customers (such as people who bought a premium service/product from you) then by all means, direct them to your official customer support system. But in all other cases, you need to help them here on the forums.

Thankfully are other ways to get information you need:

    You get the idea.

We know volunteer support is not easy, and this guideline can feel needlessly restrictive. It’s actually there to protect you as much as end users. Should their site be hacked or have any issues after you accessed it, you could be held legally liable for damages. In addition, it’s difficult for end users to know the difference between helpful developers and people with malicious intentions. Because of that, we rely on plugin developers and long-standing volunteers (like you) to help us and uphold this particular guideline.

When you help users here and in public, you also help the next person with the same problem. They’ll be able to read the debugging and solution and educate themselves. That’s how we get the next generation of developers.

@jdembowski Whoops, I thought asking access to a test site the user setup specially for debugging his issue would be okay. But I stand corrected.
    Thanks.

Since others using WP 6.0 don’t have the problem, I think it is my WP install that is different. I’m on a Windows IIS host and not LINUX like so many others. Also, my host limits me to PHP 7.4 and I’m sure my version of MySQL is old too. My workaround for now is to copy the Block Patterns from the editor and paste into the post.

    Thank you for your update.

Regarding issue #2 (source = unknown for newly added custom categories since 3.1.0), that is fixed in the latest release: 3.1.2

By the way, I will keep the main issue you reported in the back of my mind!
