• When I go to the appearance page and click on menu, it goes crazy. When I move an item slightly to the right to create a sub-folder when I save the changes, the sub-item moves back to being a menu item. So my menu has all my posts listed along with home, contact us, etc. I have worked on correcting this for hours and now am at a loss about what might be wrong.

    Help! Thank you!

  • Can you confirm that you’ve created and saved your menu and then designated that menu as the one WordPress should use at the top of your theme?

I have created and saved my menu. Not sure how I designate it should be used at the top of the theme. All my menu items and submenus were showing up as they should be until yesterday. Don’t know what happened.

If you’re in the menu editor, you should see two tabs at the top: Edit Menus and Manage Locations.

Click on the Manage Locations tab and make sure the menu you created is selected in the dropdown. (and save the changes)

I did that. But they still go back to main menu instead of submenu items. I’ve even created a new menu. That didn’t work either. I have checked every setting on the site and can’t figure out if something went amiss. Doesn’t appear to be so. Any other suggestions? Thanks for trying to help out!!

Sorry, my only other suggestions are to check plugin conflicts and to trace your steps backward to see if what changes were made before you started having menu issues.

Hi, That was a great suggestion. I went back and deactivated recently added plug-ins. It didn’t work. Boo. But thank you for trying to help. There’s something living in my computer that wants to “bug” me. ??

How many menu items do you have – like a LOT??

Have you tried switching to another default theme just to see if it’s theme-specific?

I don’t really have a lot of items. Only 23 posts. I have activated XML sitemap and I don’t know if that is impacting how the menu looks. I have started to think about switching to another theme.

Okay, so it’s not a server limitation – which can affect menus with 80 or so plus items.

Twenty-eleven should not, inherently, have any menu problems. Have you modified any theme files? What if you switch to another theme just to test if it’s the theme?
