I spent a couple of days having a hard time trying to figure out the top image of the frontpage of this site would display well on most browsers but Safari. I couple of developers told me that this was because I have SG Optimizer setup to automatic convert images to WebP format. I didn’t believe that until I decided to revert all image conversions and the image immediately appeared. It was not a cache problem on my side because the same error was detected by several users in different countries and as soon as I was able to see the image and without any cache purging, the same persons reportedly saw it right away as well.

Since I still want my images to be optimized, I ask you: is this a reported issue? Something I can fix on the settings of your plugin?

Since Safari is the main browser used for iPhone users (the majority of my audience) I would like to hear from you. Thank you

We properly check whether the browser supports WebP before servicing it. You, however, are using Cloudflare for static resources and they don’t do such checks thus causing the issue of serving webp images to browsers that don’t support it. Keep either webp off or disable Cloudflare.

This is a known problem but thankfully in few weeks Safari 14 will start supporting webp which will eliminate this issue.
