I am attempting to build a wordpress site using the theme ‘divi’. I have selected a static homepage in the Settings/Reading section. However, although I am able to access the edit page for the homepage I have selected, I can not view it. I have tried changing the page I select as the static homepage. Whichever page I choose, the same problem occurs. I can’t view the content. When I deselect a page, it becomes possible to view the content again. I have tried deactivating all plugins but that makes no difference. I have tried changing the active theme but that doesn’t work either. I have updated both the plugins and the themes but nothing works. Any ideas?

I’ve built several sites using ‘divi’ before and I’ve never had this problem. Please please can anyone give me some advise? This is driving me crazy! The site address is https://philipaaldousillustration.co.uk

    Hi flipster59,

May be updating theme or wp version fix your issue, if you are using some old version, try updating them or check DIVI theme options panel, may be they have some sort of settings.

    Hi swayam.tejwani
I’ve tried updating the theme and updating the wp version. Nothing seems to work. I’ve looked at the ‘divi’ theme options and it all seems to be set in the same way as other divi sites that I’ve built. It’s just as if the homepage is somehow not active. Whichever page I select as my static homepage, all I get is a ‘hello’ message when I try to view it.

Its sure that someone changed in theme files or may be core wp files as you are getting hello msg, might be someone made changes in code, so try to install fresh copy of wp and theme files and then check if its fixed.

If re-installed the theme and wp again but it still doesn’t make any difference.

Has anyone out there encountered this problem? I am still unable to view the content of my static homepage. Whichever page I choose as my static homepage becomes impossible to view. All I can see is a ‘hello’ message. When I deselect the page, the content becomes viewable again. I really need to get this site up and running. Please … any advice?

Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Fifteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

    (@flipster59)

I’ve tried that esmi. I’ve changed the theme. I’ve deactivated all the plugins at once and one by one. Nothing seems to make any difference. I still can’t view the static homepage. I’ve tried everything I can think of but nothing seems to work. I really don’t know what to try next. I’d be really grateful for any ideas.

Have you checked your domain’s root folder using FTP (or whatever file management application your host provides) to see if it contains an index.html file?

This is where I begin to be totally lost esmi. I’m no coder. Where do I look for this?

    (@esmi)

If you are not familiar with FTP, you could try asking your hosts for assistance with this.

Thanks esmi. I’ve logged into my cpanel and I’ve managed to find the index.html file. What should I do now?

    esmi

    (@esmi)

    Try renaming it to index-old.html

    (@flipster59)

Ok. I’ve tried that but it hasn’t changed anything. Do I need to do anything else?

Wait a minute. It’s worked!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you esmi. I’ve been trying to sort this for two weeks! So easy when you know how. So impossible when you don’t. Thank you.
