• The WP 1.2 wp-admin has an option to “Use legacy my-hacks.php file support: “
Regarding this function, the wiki states:

The my-hacks.php was actively used prior to WordPress v1.2 to contain all of the user’s hacks. Enable this option if you want to continue using the hacks that can be placed in the my-hacks.php file.

Am I wrong to infer that this means there is a new, more sanctioned, way to include ‘hacks’? If so, is there any written documentation that I could be pointed to?

  • my-hacks used to be the only place to extend WP, now there’s plugins. So most of the popular ‘hack’ should be migrating to the plugin style archetecture. But my-hacks is still useful, it’s a great place to add little bits of code to your own site. You can turn it off if you want. I have my count down function in there.

Thanks Kitten. That was an (incredibly) fast and thorough answer : )
    Man, I love WordPress people.

    ??

For some reason my checkbox next to Use legacy my-hacks.php file support won’t stay checked after I press “update options” – anyone else having this trouble?
