• I noticed yesterday that only the page headings were showing (e.g. header image and page titles & main menu showing all pages) but nothing else.

When I go into wp-admin mode, all the content is there.

Now, all of a sudden, not only the page content has disappeared, but the entire site! Aaarrrggghhh! Everything’s still there in the wp-admin mode, but if you go to my site, you just get a blank screen.

Can someone help, please? I’m not massively ‘techy’ but I managed to build a really nice site and it is my business site, so it’s a disaster that it’s down. ??

I did some updates (including a wp version update, I think) a few days ago, so I’m not sure if it’s anything to do with that?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you still have a copy of that child theme?

    Yes, I have…that sounds promising!

You can hide the site title text via Appearance -> Header. Not sure what you mean by product images.

The child theme only has 3 files for some reason??

    header.php
    index.php
    style.css

That’s OK. I think your earlier problems may have been caused by the empty parent theme folder. A child can’t exist without a fully populated parent theme. Try re-installing the child theme now and see if it works.

Widgets are stored on a per-theme basis. And a child theme still classes as a theme in its own right. so all of your widget settings will have been stored against your previous child theme. Do you still have a copy of that child theme?

Sorry – my site is a business site, so I used the child theme originally to set it up so that I’d have my logo instead of the title text.
Then, as my header image, I’d chosen

Random: Show a different image on each page.

using uploaded photos…images of my products.

I think I’m doing it wrong. I named the index.php file in the parent theme index-old.php and then renamed the TwentyElevenChildTheme-old back to TwentyElevenChildTheme, but nothing’s changed. (but the site’s still there at least)

I’ve just found this under Appearance: Editor

    Twenty Eleven: Stylesheet (style.css)

This theme is broken. Template is missing.

Could this have something to do with the problems I’m having getting it back to the way it looked before?

Sorry to be a pain…I’ve also noticed that whilst most of the site is visible, there is no content showing when I click on the ‘Blog’ tab.

I’ve checked and it’s all set up to have a static home page and show posts under the ‘Blog’ page, as it was before. My posts are still there (I can see them in wp-admin) but they are not visible on the site.

I really must do other bits of work now and then go to bed, but I’ll check in again tomorrow. Hope you’ve not got fed up of me and can continue to help. You’ve been an absolute saviour so far. Thank you again! :)))

It sounds like you are not uploading the Twenty Eleven theme correctly. You must upload the entire twentyeleven theme folder to wp-content/themes.

    I did …

I have, however, got the blog page back, by undoing this:

I think I’m doing it wrong. I named the index.php file in the parent theme index-old.php

There is definitely a stylesheet (style.css) in the TwentyEleven folder as well, so I don’t know why it’s telling me it’s missing. Shouldn’t it be recognising/looking for the TwentyElevenChildTheme style.css file instead though? Do I need to do anything to make it do that?

Again, sorry – I really will go now…will check in tomorrow.

Thanks a million again for all your help so far. You have the patience of a saint! ??

I named the index.php file in the parent theme index-old.php

No! Please, please, leave the parent theme alone!
