My blog is running incredibly slow

  • I host my blog through Yahoo! Geocities and I’ve never had many problems aside from 1 small hack. However, the blog has been running incredibly slow over the last 7 days.

    The blog either takes 30 seconds – 2 minutes to load, or it doesn’t load at all. All other websites (from both my work/home/Starbucks locations) load quickly/normally.

    I’ve checked my bandwidth… I’ve only used 2% of my monthly alloement.

    I’m running WordPress version 1.5.2
    Is there something in this version that could be causing the slowdown?

    How would you suggest I troubleshoot this?

  • Anything in the webserver’s error logs?

    Can you try optimizing your mysql database and see if that helps?

    I’m not as technical as most here. Can you define: “optimizing your mysql database”

    Run a repair on the database to see if any indexes are out of place. WordPress is preinstalled with indexes and sometimes crap happens and it stuff don’t add up and it takes longer than usual for things to load. What’s the max visits/hr on your site.

    I should again state that I’m a little behind when it comes to code/wordpress jargon, so can you tell me how to “run a repair on the database”?

    Does a program called phpmyadmin sound familar with your webhosts’ backend? Here’s some pictures to help you out on that.

    If you can get that far, here’s the instructions for running a repair.

    If none of this looks right, try asking your host for assistance as they’re in a place to access your account.
