Multitude of Serious Issues

  • I upgraded to 2.0.4 last week and everything was working fine until this morning. Here are the symptoms:

    1) Noticed that my image upload area was totally missing from the Write panel

    2) Upon clicking Save as Draft, the screen goes blank. It seems that it is saving posts because if I go back through Manage->Posts, it shows up and is saved

    3) Posts are not displaying in the preview area. All I get is the title, no categories or tags, and it shows the permalink, not the front page.

    4) Ditto for publishing posts.

    5) I’ve deactivated some of my plugins (see below) and when you do so, the screen goes blank.

    6) I can’t even get to my WP login via another browser, so I’m terrified to logout.

    Ok, now for some changes that I did yesterday and then rolled back to see if I could fix the above problems.

    **I should note first, that I was also trying to see if I could use WP Widgets in my theme. They didn’t appear to me working, so I scrapped the whole thing and immediately rolled back all the changes I made during that process. I did not experience any problems, particularly with disabling plugins at that time.**

    I have two new plugins, one is Democracy (for polling) and the second is Email Notification (for obvious). I disabled both of those and pulled the code out of my template, no no avail.

    Everything was working fine yesterday. I’m super stressed over this now though. If you have any clues, please speak up. If you need more info, please speak up.

    An update of sorts….

    I’m now seeing the file upload panel, but when I attempt to upload a JPG, I get the following error:

    “File type does not meet security guidelines.”

    Later that day…(aka, meanwhile back at the torpedo factory…):

    I fixed it. For anyone else who’s having this problem, there is a seriously huge issue with the so-called “rich visual editor”. And I mean beyond the fact that it sucks to work with.

    I have had it unchecked since I first saw it, but for some reason it decided to act up today with the above problems.

    Once I figured it out and rechecked it, I found that when I hit the ‘save and continue editing’ it was switching back and forth between showing me the editor and showing me the old-style html write panel.

    Rechecking it also cleared up the problem with the file uploader straight away. Now I have it unchecked again, and my fingers crossed that it won’t be a pita.

    I hope this helps someone, and I hope that the WP dudes can fix this up for the next version cuz this caused much heartache.
