• I have a issue with multisite.

brand new install have made sure many times i had not over looked anything.

If you click from a google search listings to a page on my site that is ranking and in the listings the page redirects to the home page.

the onyl thing I had tried was in network settign s change the permalinks to minus the /blog/

This is being done on a multi site sub directory install.

    example:
mysite.com/page-here/ when click in the search results redirects to home page.

if I am on site and click to the page from the side bar it works fine ,does not redirect

    to home page.

    any help would be great

  • post a link to search results and your site so I can try and reproduce it.

    great thanks fro your time.

    here is the site

    mindrisehypnosis.com

now in the google results on this results page its third down or so . you will see its a page on the blog. when you click to go to the page it redirects to home page.

works fine when i disable multisite. I have played with combination of having www. and then no www just to test.

    https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=how+to+hypnotize+someone#q=how+to+hypnotize+someone&hl=en&prmd=ivns&ei=UN8xTr_0ENKdgQfVt6n7DA&start=10&sa=N&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=d6ea0dfb12eff9c6&biw=1436&bih=888

also if that doesnt work so you can see if you google search: structure of habits

the site has a page that is number 1 and does same thing. so basically results in google when you click they all redirect to home page of blog.

    again Thank you!

I just also noticed when you navigate on the site it all is fine.
if you place the link itneh browser to go direct to a page it redirects.

    example in broswer.

must be some rewrite problem no?

When I click on the google link, and then on the ‘How to hypnotize…’ link to your site from that page, it works perfectly fine…

Have you tried in a different browser?

yes I disabled multisite as all the pages were redirecting to home page and havent found any solution.

you could nav on the site to pages and they work fine.if you click from serps or go direct to a page from another site they all redirect to homepage.

must be something witha rewrite rule.

    I DID go from a search engine, that’s what I’m saying ??

I went Google -> ‘How to hypnotize’ -> Your site. Worked as expected.

You said you disabled multisite, but I can’t tell if you were answering my question so I’ll rephrase:

    1) Have you tested on another computer and/or browser?

    2) Does the problem go away if you turn OFF multiSite?

    3) Are you using any caching software?

(If it was rewrite rules, it would actually happen ALL the time, unless you put something in to check ‘if from Google, then MUAHHAHHAH!’ The WP rewrite rules are pretty basic.)

it goes away if multisite is DISABLED works in google just fine from the serp click to the page.

if multisite is enabled if you click the serp result to the page it redirects to the home of the blog.

I have tried diff computers had hosting support produce the problem they say ”its a google problem. well then its a bing and yahoo problem also.

I have made a fresh install test and does the same thing. the serp result has the www.
and I got rid of the www to work with multi site easier but have tested all combos.I ahve no idea what it could be.the htaccess file is exactly what wordpress said to place in there when enabling the network option.

I have not adding any sort of cloaking, this is all fresh install. It has to be on the hosting side, but they are as smart as a stick.

ANy ideas I can reneable and leave on and thanks for your ideas and time much appreciated.

ok I have multisite enabled now.

Wait… How did you do that? Are you htaccess redirecting it or did you edit the database?

    Thread Starter jeff01050

    (@jeff01050)

oh no just when I fresh installed and i didtn add the www in also in settings -general tab i didnt add the www.

i also tested on a brand new no posts, no importing install of wordpress, new database the works enabled multi site and the issues is still happening.

i have done nothing that isnt part of the the network enavling htat word press instructs as you enable multi site.

Either Google’s passing some funky parameters, or there’s something on your site that’s weird.

Have you tried with a different theme? Maybe something the functions.php is doing that.

    Thread Starter jeff01050

    (@jeff01050)

I tried new theme , disabled plugins, complete new install and created 1 new post the same as a serp result to test.

what i will do is make a new database an a complete new install of wordpress and enable multisite with basic theme and then make one new post to match a serp result again.

and triple check my steps just for my own sanity. Last I will try on another host.

Ill report back and thanks again.

If there are no plugins or theme issues, and your .htaccess is ‘clear’ then there’s something wrong with how your server is handling these requests. I say that b/c if it was WordPress, this would not be the first we heard of the problem :/

It may be as simple as how your server is set up to redirect subsites.
