I would like to create a multisite network. The main domain will be https://www.example.com
It will have up to 7 additional sub-sites to create the network, like https://www.example.com/the-network/site-a & https://www.example.com/the-network/site-b
I wish to have some content that will be present in the main domain as well as a sub-site. And have navigational items appear from each sub-site to be shown on the main domain.
The end purpose in doing this is to give control to each sub-site to a different user to administer whilst the super-admin will look over the main domain.
A good example of what I’m trying to achieve is https://www.donatelife.gov.au/
I want to make each site administration as easy as possible for those users so it is crucial for menu items to be added to the menu structure for the domain.

Is this acheivable in WP and easily managed due to the large amount of content spanning multiple areas of the site(s).

    Thanks

Look into ‘multi network’ plugins. That’d be an easier start I think.

    Hey Mika,

I work with Willow77 and we are both trying to understand more about Multisite Network. I have a site lets call it https://donatelife.webdev.com.au/ and a sub site called https://donatelife.webdev.com.au/my-network, how do I create a sub-sub site called https://donatelife.webdev.com.au/my-network/nsw. I’ve tried with the multi network plugins that you suggested. I was able to create networks, but unable to create sub-sub domains. Creating sub domains was easy, sub-sub domains is ridiculous. Is it possible what I’m asking for?

Those aren’t subdomains. Those are subsites. Subdomains are foo.domain.com and a sub-subdomain is bar.foo.domain.com

Now that we have terminology out of the way, which plugin?

    Sorry Mika, your right,

Is it possible to have a sub sub site? I’m not referring to any particular plugin, I just mean in general?

Yes, but it requires plugins. Multinetwork plugins are the most common, and I would not call them simple.

Yeah I know, its extremely difficult,

Thank you for your time, your the smartest WordPress person I know, that’s why I asked you.

I’ve come up with a solution and this is what I’ve done.

I’ve got domain b which sits under domain a. domain b’s templates inherited from domain a. So if I change the template of domain a, domain b is also changed. Domain b also has sub sites which inherit from domain b. Domain b has the multisite plugin you were talking about.

It really is a mess of networks here, but in summary it doesn’t matter how far down you go with the networks, they all inherit from their parents. This is great because you only have to change the parent and all sub children are changed as well. Each separate node has its own login area and you can’t login to another area, thus forcing you to only look after your own network.
