Hi I’ve been searching forums for the answer to this specific issue but have had no luck- any advice on this much appreciated.

    1) Fresh WordPress install; all fine
    2) Enabled Multisite, set up a few sites; all worked perfectly
    3) Manually installed WordPress MU Domain Mapping as per the instructions; when done can’t log in to overall superadmin / Multisite functions for the installation at all, get redirect errors every time.

When I use the www. prefix it at least takes me to the login menu, but then no further when I try to log in. Without the www. prefix (which I have the site set up not to use) it just brings up the redirect issue every time with no login screen.

If I log in via a site contained within the Multisite install then that works however when I click on the Multisite parts of the menu, like the Sites section, it fails and the redirect issue comes up again. Manually disabling WordPress MU Domain Mapping makes everything immediately work perfectly.

Please help- I’ve been trying to resolve this for days now!

My guess was that this was something to do with the use of www. somewhere along the line but I can’t understand why it works fine with WordPress MU Domain Mapping disabled but not at all with it enabled. I can’t see the relation between these two things.

Domain mapping shouldn’t impact the main site. You can’t map it. It’s either domain.com or it’s not. It can’t be both.

When I use the www. prefix it at least takes me to the login menu, but then no further when I try to log in. Without the www. prefix (which I have the site set up not to use) it just brings up the redirect issue every time with no login screen.

THAT sounds like you have a miss-match with www and non-www.

Go into the database and check the value for ‘domain’ in wp_blogs

It should be either www.domain.com or domain.com (no http at all)

Once you know THAT, go to wp_site and make sure it matches

THEN go to wp_options and look up home and siteURLs and make sure they’re both the same (in this case it’d be https://domain.com or https://www.domain.com)

Finally! Go to wp-config.php and make sure in there that you have www or not, matching everything down the line.

Thank you very much- all the domains were correct (in that they matched, none had www.) but I noticed that in some instances the capitalisation of the domain varied and I changed it all to lower case- it worked immediately when I did this.
