• Hey, so I have my main website (joellepoulos.com) which is my art and photography portfolio. This website is already a DA 40. I’m looking to make a new website which will be completely different (a referral link website), would it be possible to host this website under my joellepoulos.com website and for it to have its own domain say cheapskate.com? And would this be a good idea in terms of SEO as they are quite different in search terms. Or would it be better to have a completely new website in regards to SEO?

I only ask as hosting is expensive and I cant really afford to pay for a 3rd website hosting plan right now but would love to get this thing on the road.

I already have one multisite under this domain (/shop) so know how to do it its just a question of it will work in terms of domain and if its a good idea for SEO.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi! I think the best choise (for SEO) will be a separate domain. You can ask you hosting provider if they allow you to host multiple domains whitout extra fees.

    Hope this helps ??

No problem using a multisite; just map the domain.

    No issue with SEO.

Like Adi points out, your host has to allow for more than one domain. They need to route any domains you’ve added to your account. Some budget hosting plans do not allow added domains.

With multiple domains allowed, you can host multiple sites from the same account. They don’t even need to be WP or Multisite based. If you’re allowed subdomains, you can have separate sites for each subdomain. I’m unsure of SEO ramifications, but subdomains should be seen as separate sites IMO. Search engines may see things differently than I do.

Google Search Console lists my domain with and without www as separate sites even though they both serve the same content (they may not do this anymore with some sites). An added reason to believe subdomains are seen as separate sites. But I’d go with a completely different domain if you’re able to, I mention subdomains only if your hosting plan limits added domains.
