As of WordPress 5.x, is the Classic editor compatible with multi-site setups?

On a single WP installation, I get the setting option to choose what editor to use for specific posts/pages. On my multi-site setup, it seems I can only use the block editor or classic–no choice to choose which one for specific posts. The install requires network activation as well.

After getting an update notice for the Classic Editor today, I clicked update, but things seem wonky now. I don’t see any settings (options) for the Gutenberg or classic editor choices, none on the Writing settings, none on the user profile to choose on a per user basis, nor does it give me the choice to open/edit a post or page (when you hover hover a post in the post list.

So it seems now it’s one or the other…no choice.

As a side note, I did delete the Gutenberg editor plugin as this is now WP version 5.0.2 which has it in the core. Could deleting the plugin cause a corruption now, perhaps?

There is a new settings for multisite, it’s on the network settings screen (at the bottom) and controls whether the site admins can change options: https://ps.w.org/classic-editor/assets/screenshot-6.png?rev=1998671.

Ah! Thanks Andrew, I see it. I also forgot that was there because now I remember I did have that set when WP 5.0 came out. However, I’m wondering if the Classic Editor update I just did yesterday unchecked that option because I know I had that set (I was able to use the feature on one of the demo sites I had created). So the update must of done something…..long story short, I re-checked the option and everything is good again; I can choose the editor.

Glad it’s working as expected now ??

There will be an update for network activation vs. site activation soon (well, as soon as it can be tested over the holidays). The plan is to remove the “network only” limitation and to add couple of radio buttons to the network settings so super admins can choose the default editor for all sites (when network activated).
