    Hi!

I run a mutlisite wordpress configuration where Site Kit works fine on my main site but I can’t run the setup on a subfolder website. After the enrolement process it says :

Une erreur s’est produite : The necessary verification token could not be found on your site. This may be related to your site using a page caching plugin. Please flush your home page cache and then try again.

I have disabled Cloudflare for the enrollement and purged everything.

    Any idea ?

    Thanks

Thanks for getting in touch @looic. While Site Kit does work for multisite environments, including those sites within the network if they are subdirectory or subdomain sites, as long as set up for Site Kit is initiated within the wp-admin for each of these sites individually. What I suspect may be happening, is something, possibly at host level, or caching independent of Cloudflare, is impacting detection of the snippet placed on the site within a subfolder. To determine more on this, please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
    2. Have you been able to verify any other subdirectory sites within your network successfully?

As the message you’re encountering is related to the verification token, one workaround for this is to verify ownership of this subdirectory site manually in Search Console via other means, before then trying to connecting Site Kit. The plugin will use this existing verification during set up.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Thank you.

    Hi

Thanks for your feedback. The Site Health information does not show anything unusual, here is an extract. I’ve filled the Google Forms with all the details enclosed about my installation.

About the site verification, my website (and the subfoder) already shows as verified under the Search console. See below.

If you have an idea, let me know.

    Many thanks!

    Loic.

Many thanks for sharing the additional information @looic, which is very useful indeed. I can see a couple of potential issues which may be resulting in this error. Firstly, you’re using Cloudflare and it’s possible a check of your verification code is not passing based on a pre-visit Cloudflare check.

I can also see that you have different site URLs defined for this subdirectory site, with one referencing an English variation related path (/en – see screenshot). While this may be related to your language plugin, to troubleshoot this further, please follow the steps below:

    1. Temporary pause Cloudflare on this site.
    2. Login to your live site from a Chrome browser incognito window.
    3. Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
    4. Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
    5. From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to “Site Kit by Google“.
    6. Attempt to set up Site Kit once more.

Let me know how you get on with the above. This check will ensure any language and caching plugin installed on your site are not active for you only (as a logged in administrator).

Ask if you have any questions with the above. Thank you.

Glad to hear it @looic, and appreciate the update. If you run into any further errors or if you have any Site Kit related queries, be sure to get in touch.

If you have a moment free please also consider leaving a review, in particular as it sounds like you use Site Kit on a couple of sites. We’d love to hear your feedback.
