Multisite setup and configuration

  • I’m trying to track all traffic on an intranet using the Google Analytics plugin. My knowledge of Google Analytics is elementary; I’ve plugged it into a million sites, but not done anything sophisticated.

    How do I set the plugin up to track traffic throughout a WordPress multisite intranet set up like this?:

    intranet.company.com
    department1.intranet.company.com
    department2.intranet.company.com
    department3.intranet.company.com

    etc.

    I’m a bit overwhelmed by the plugin Advanced settings which seem to apply, specifically Subdomain Tracking, Enable Cross Domain Tracking, Cross-Domain Tracking, Primary Domain, and Cross-Domain Tracking, Other Domains.

    What should they be set to for the top-level site (intranet.company.com) and for each sub site (department1.intranet.company.com, department2.intranet.company.com, etc)?

    On the GA side, the filter instructions here (https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/gaTrackingSite#profilesKey) are also opaque to me.
