• Hello dear WordPress Support,

    I have such an issue:
I use WP Multisite. Media library on the root site works well, and after upload are saved under uploads/2020 folder.

But Media library doesnt work properly for subsites. uploads/2020 and uploads/sites/siteid/ are not synchronised, medias that are uploaded with main site, are not saved on the subsites.

This causes the situation, that I go to media library of my subsites, and see only the placeholders of media but not medias itself, because they are just not there.

Could you please help me to solve this issue?

Thank you in advance for your help and support!

    Best regards,
    Petro Kozak

  • One of the concepts behind multisite is the subsites are almost like a discrete WordPress install on a different server or host. There are certain components shared such as the WordPress core, the database, some network settings, the themes, and plugins.

Anything custom or added by the individual site admins themselves need to be separate as the one site owner may not wish to share their work on another site. This preserves that discrete site concept.

So, if you need an image from site A you would need to use the image URL from Site A to present or embed the image on Site B. Or you might download and use that image by uploading the image to site B. There may be plugins to extend the media library across sites on a multisite or methods of storing images offsite (in a CDN maybe) but I can’t think of any offhand. You might look at a few media manager plugins for that capability.

As the admin of that system, If you’re running on Linux, you might do some symbolic links to bypass some of this.
