Multisite root as subdomain, can map network sites as subdomains also?

  • I am trying to set up a Multisite network using the subdomain configuration (*.example.com). However, my root domain points to a different site, and that cannot be changed. What I would like to be able to do is configure my Multisite root as a subdomain (wp.example.com), and then have network sites be configured as subdomains (*.example.com). I do not want them as sub-subdomains (*.wp.example.com).

    Put more simply:
    wp.example.com (network root)
    site1.example.com
    site2.example.com
    site3.example.com

    Is it possible to configure Multisite this way?
