Multisite Question

Well, sounds like you want specific subdomains to be the splitters on location. Right now, BD doesn’t support or have a way to use that if you want to use the Regions module. Your other option could be to setup multiple WP sites (!) for each install and put BD on there. It’s not WPMU compliant at the moment, although I have that high on the list to fix shortly.

Maybe BD wouldn’t be the best solution, if that’s how you want to solve the problem. However, if what you want is a site where someone can do location-based filtering on listings, then BD might work well.

Ideally, we would like visitors to land directly on the listings for their region, but also allow businesses to have listings in multiple region without having separate entries in the database. So we thought that having the region as the top-level category and allowing business to belong to multiple categories would work. Then assign the top-level regional category to subdomains – somewhat like https://www.craigslist.org.

On the first visit, a visitor would select their region (or perhaps we would direct them via IP); we could then use a browser cookie to get the users to the correct region on subsequent visits.

Understood. If that’s the preferred workflow, BD probably won’t work for you then.
