We (College of Education at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa) use the plugin ourselves on about 40 different WordPress installations, a mix of single site and multisite. Our multisite installs have around 100 sites each.
LDAP integration is mostly included for completeness, since our central IT department prefers we use CAS (since LDAP integration can expose user passwords if the WordPress site ever gets compromised).
Support is offered as a courtesy, but clearly lower priority than our official duties. We have a consulting arm that may be open to a more defined agreement:

The plugin is an open source project, and contributions are welcome at:

Role-based authorizations are currently possible with the plugin, but require hooking into the plugin in your theme. We can give you more details if you’re interested in that.
Good luck!
