• Hi,

I was wondering what to do in the following situation:

I am building a new site say mysite.com

However, if it is successful I may want to add a further full section to the site so for it to work like:

    mysite.com/section1
    mysite.com/section2

Then build a custom homepage to link to the new sections. Each section will not interrelate at all so they would have custom menus, custom tags, custom blog posts etc. However do I install multiple versions of wordpress from the off. One at:
    mysite.com
    mysite.com/option1

Or do I build the first option on mysite.com and then migrate it to mysite.com/option1 if it is a success and I choose to include more sections within it?

If I migrate it, surely that will remove all the links points to the first section thus a decrease in SEO?

    Sorry if this isn’t clear.

Alternatively I could use one version of wordpress and just build in custom menus etc. to keep the sections clear?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Sam

Not if you remember to redirect the old URLs to the new ones via .htaccess.

So do you think I should go for build on the homepage then migrate if successful?

I try really hard not to get into ‘Should I use Multisite….’ questions because the answer is a MASSIVE “Maybe.”

You could do this with Multisite, or Custom Post Types, or Categories. They’re all valid options. Depends what you’re comfortable with for the most part.
