Multisite on this Shared Hosting Site. Your opinion please?

    I am planning tostart a wordpress multisite with ecommerce features powered by oscommerce on these two Shared Web hosting sites that has the following resource limits as stated on their terms.

    1st Shared Host:

    May not use more than 50% of available CPU resources for more than 120 seconds at a time.
    May not use more than 50% of available CPU resources for more than 5 minutes out of a 60 minute period.
    May not use more than 820MB of memory combined between processes
    May not have more than 10 processes running at any given time.

    2nd Shared Host:

    Max CPU Consumption 100Mhz 100Mhz 100Mhz
    Max Memory Consumption 64MB 64MB 64MB
    Max MySQL User Connections 45 45 45

    I actually don’t know how to interpret those since im an inexperienced user. What is your opinion to this? What host should i pick? the 1st or the 2nd?

  • How many sites are you planning on adding?
    How many users?

    In short, yes you can put multisite on a shared host, but it mostly depends on what you;re going to do with it. “adding ecommerce” is not enough info. You do the same thing on a single site.

    Its just a starting site. Maybe around 100 sites or below and same to users, 100 and below. Then i’ll wait when it comes to the point that it is necessary to upgrade my hosting plan. What do you think is the preferred host to this?

    We cannot recommend specific hosts.

    If you are setting up multisite to give away free blogs, this may break the hosts TOS. Your BEST bet to to contact the hosts you’ve been looking at and ask them if you can use multisite on their servers.

    I already contacted them and its fine with them. I understand that you cannot recommend host.. but in my first post, i specified two shared host with its resource usage limits, what I ask is in that 2 shared host, where should my multisite may fit in.

    That’s like saying ‘You can’t use more than half a tank of gas’ but not telling anyone how BIG the tank is, or a way to measure it (which … sounds like the gas company, now that I think about it).
