It is not possible. The /wp-content/uploads directory is shared and WebP will work for all sites.

@behzadg, why? Honestly, I don’t see any need for this option.

@mateuszgbiorczyk Just because you don’t see any need for this doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be implemented. I also have a multisite and since I’m not activating your plugin network-wide but on a site-by-site basis, “I don’t see any need” for it to convert all media for every site, including ones not using the plugin. Furthermore, I just don’t want each network subsite to have the ability try converting all the images on my network and seeing the full path to other media files in what should be considered other sites. I could possibly see this being an option on the parent site (check site id is parent site id), but even then I probably wouldn’t use it. The “need” for this is that a network subsite should in and of itself be separate and work within its specific media directory. I am also a plugin developer and the fact you “don’t see any need” for this is both shortsighted and dumbfounding, not to mention how rude you sound by phrasing it the way you did, which is the reason for my tone in this reply. @machineitsvcs While I understand the reason for your tone, I do wish to point out that if another plugin dev left you a comment like this, you would likely feel hurt. I have removed your rather harsh comment about vulnerabilities as that’s just going to spread FUD without reason. If there are security issues, please contact plugins[AT]www.remarpro.com but don’t post unfound claims like that.

@mateuszgbiorczyk In general a plugin used on Multisite is either declared as network wide and controlled by the network admin, or it’s per-site. It’s fine to be network-only, but you should document that and ensure it’s managed only by the network admin, not JUST the primary site admin. Sometimes sites on networks are totally separate, and they may not all want (or be ready) for this change. It’s considered prudent to keep that in mind.

@ipstenu @mateuszgbiorczyk I apologize for my tone. I came here to report the same issue as the op and felt it was being dismissed without consideration, and since I manage a multisite network for clients who I feel shouldn’t have control over anyone else’s media files, I related strongly with the op’s position. I am glad you, @ipstenu , took notice of the situation and have provided more support, and information, to the argument. Thank you.

I absolutely did not want to offend anyone. I just haven’t had any reports of this type from users so far, so I haven’t dealt with this case.

@machineitsvcs, if you think he should implement this functionality, why didn’t you write it to me earlier? If I receive several requests from different people, such a topic is treated much more seriously than a request from one person.

Please note that we are working on the plugin in our spare time so I believe it is worth taking more distance.

@behzadg WordPress Multisite support has been added to the plugin in the latest version.

It will be served by the Network Admin, not the single Site Admin. This is due to the fact that the plugin also supports other directories, such as /themes, which are shared. It is not possible to only serve a single site from the network. The entire network is served collectively.
