Multisite Login Redirect Loop

So, we have a multisite set up where the portfolio subsite houses only portfolio content, but looks nearly identical to the parent site, and shares the same logins/users. The subsite needs to be private, but I have to set up everything all over again in UM on the subsite for that to work, and it has been glitching badly.
I have user roles set so when users go to the site, it will tell them to login, so they have to login. But then once they do, it redirects them back to the login page as if they don’t have access to the site–but they can click the items on the left nav and go to any of the pages. They are logged in but UM definitely doesn’t think so.
The weird thing is, I haven’t had any issues at all on the base site (https://my.ramjack.com/), only the subsite. And man have I had problems on the subsite.
Again, I have the user roles set to redirect to the home page upon login, and no redirect plugins or anything like that. I also don’t have the redirect if user lacks access option in UM settings enabled.
It’s quite an aggravating problem. Any help is appreciated.
