Multisite install issue – Urgent

Using latest version of WP & BP

When I go to create new fields it doesn’t give me the ability to select the filed type.

I read the FAQ on display but does this also effect the creation of the new fields?

Also, should this be activated Network wide or site by site?

I also have multiblog set to true so each site can have it’s own members.
